Review: Primary Motivations

"The Primary Motivations: by Guilt and Shame" is a realistic portrayal of modern 20-somethings looking for love, which may not be such a good thing. Written and starring Shoshana McCallum and Elizabeth McMenamin, the play opens at the wedding of Sarah (McCallum) to the impossibly great Stewart (Kyle Pryor), as Sarah's sister Claire (McMenamin) rambles through a self-involved speech about her own singleness.

Ex-NYU student Hakan Yalincak on trial for fraud

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Nov. 2 in the trial of former NYU student and university donor Hakan Yalincak, who was charged with orchestrating two multi-million dollar financial scams at the beginning of the summer. According to prosecutors, Yalincak's family made a $21 million pledge to NYU to convince investors that they were rich and running a credible business.

Currently, I write the "Need to Know" newsletter for the American Press Institute, which explores trends in journalism at home and abroad. I also write content for the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY about subjects like journalism entrepreneurship, newsroom leadership, audience engagement, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

In the spring of 2019, I was a Tow Knight Fellow in Entrepreneurial Journalism at the Newmark School of Journalism, where I launched a non-profit called Sidewalk News, which uses outdoor advertising to distribute local news.

I also cover comedy and media in New York City; I previously compiled the comedy listings for The New York Times, and wrote for The New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Splitsider, Flavorpill, Time Out New York, Paste Magazine, Vulture, The Awl, and GOOD Magazine.

I have a degree from New York University in Broadcast Journalism and International Politics. As well as holding real jobs, I have written questions for BBC 4 quiz show "Only Connect", read the news on New Zealand radio, and audio described plays for blind audiences.
